Signs, balloons and smiling faces filled up the passenger processing center Tuesday as friends and family members welcomed back the 143 Soldiers of the 594th Transportation Company as they arrived back at Fort Campbell after spending a year in Kuwait.
The Soldiers spent the last year delivering supplies throughout Kuwait and Iraq. The Soldiers logged nearly eight million miles of driving. Although the roads of Iraq can be dangerous, the Soldiers were successful in bringing everyone home safe.
"We left with 143 Soldiers and we came back with 143 Soldiers," said Capt. Katie Babbitt, commander 594th Transportation Company.
Babbitt credits the company's success throughout the deployment on the hard work and dedication of the Soldiers and the outstanding leadership of the Non-commissioned Officers.
"We were successful because of the NCO's and Soldiers of this unit," said Babbitt. "They knew what to do and always accomplished the mission."
For the Soldiers of the 594th, it's been along year and they are ready to get back to their families and make up for lost time.
"I just can't wait to get back home," said Sgt. Nicholas Szalay, 594th Transportation Company. "After I relax for a while my family and I are going to go on a long vacation."
